First Impressions.
Now just by reading the title of this book, you’d think it’s about getting wasted every day. Kissing a goat with no “fucks” given. But it is entirely different and pretty much the opposite of all that.
What it’s really about.
The world is a pretty messed up place, and we’re being bombarded with information that the key to a better life is more, more and more. We struggle a lot throughout our lives. Giving too many fucks where they do not deserve to be given. We’re wired to become dissatisfied with whatever we have and satisfied by only what we don’t have. We’re also being bombarded to give a fuck about everything. From celebrities to having the latest gadget, we have so much stuff and so many opportunities that we pretty much don’t even know what to give a fuck about anymore.
This causes us to become overly attached to the superficial and fake, spending our lives chasing a delusional expectation of happiness and satisfaction.
This book teaches you that the key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more, instead, less, reorienting our expectations for life and choosing what is important and what is not.
One thing I realised was that this book is very different to the typical “stay positive”, “believe in yourself”, “be better than everyone else”, “never give up”, “always try” stuff we get in a lot of self-help books. Instead, it teaches you how to accept problems head on. Solving them rather than avoiding them with positivity, denial, and blame, which is most likely to backfire mentally. As mentioned in the book.
“The avoidance of suffering is a form of suffering.”
These days were facing a psychological problem where people no longer realise it’s okay for things to suck at times, leading us to start blaming ourselves. This book turns your pain into a tool. Your problems into slightly better problems making it easy for you to solve them. Which I believe is real progress. It gives you lessons and stories based on the past of authors as well as the past of many well-known names, like stars in the Beatles and Metallica.
The book has taught me a lot that is truly life changing. For example, the fact that problems never go away, they just improve.
“Life is essentially an endless series of problems, the solution to one problem is merely the creation of the next one”
It taught me never to hope for a life without problems, instead, a life full of good problems that I can solve. As happiness comes from solving problems. And Avoiding problems can lead to a pretty miserable life. So I think I’d rather solve them instead.
Another thing it taught me was that to truly improve you need to be very comfortable with failure and not be afraid to fail. We can only be truly successful at something if we’re willing to fail. It taught me that, people who are better than you at something are only better because they failed at it more times than you. Failure isn’t the opposite of success it’s a part of success.
My thoughts.
There are many great lessons in this book. I believe it is a life changing book. It has changed my life and perspective. I absolutely recommend this book. I would give it a 10/10. I believe this book will definitely be a future best seller. It will give you the wisdom and ability not to give a fuck and live a better life in doing so.
My favourite quote of the book –
“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of Life.”
This book redefines the self-help genre. In a much more realistic light. It simply avoids that delusional positivity we are a lot more likely to get in a lot of other books. I believe this book is a must have that can definitely improve your life, if not change it.
