Let’s face it, anything to do with wires is a pain. Wireless earphones, Bluetooth speakers, wireless mouse have become fastly adopted convenience products. You could still technically buy wired versions of all these devices but the lack of wires is a convenience factor. Wireless chargers are no exception.
The TYLT Fold is created to be a versatile wireless charger. One that we got to test out and have been using for a month. Is it worth it?
Design
The TYLT fold wireless charger is a perfect companion for your desk. Most typical wireless chargers we’ve seen are flat. The fold gives you an option to have it flat or in “stand mode”, having it stand at an angle. Which is great for things like seeing what notifications pop up, watching movies, or using Face ID on an iPhone with ease. All while your phone is being charged.
The LED on the bottom of the TYLT Fold indicates whether the device is correctly placed and charging or not. You may not always know when your device isn’t charging when you place it on the charger and go do something else or work on your computer just to find out your phone hasn’t been charging this whole time.
But the LED light blinks as an error to let you know that it isn’t positioned well and charging so you can make a quick adjustment. My only gripe with the LED light is when you use the charger in standing mode at night to watch a movie, it lights up against your phone which can be really distracting.
The surface of the TYLT Fold wireless charger is great quality and has a soft-touch texture.
Functionality
Devices that have wireless charging built-in typical use the Qi standard. That’s what the TYLT fold uses too, so most devices are compatible.
The TYLT fold wireless charger uses a 10-watt output and can fast-charge compatible Apple and Samsung devices.
The TYLT fold is very reliable and works almost all the time even through cases. This is because of the three coils integrated into the charger. Instead of having one and having to perfectly place your device in that one position all the time, having three makes it less of a hassle.
You never have to find that perfect precise position to charge your device. Upside down, straight, at an angle, it all works perfectly fine with total freedom.
Is the TYLT Fold wireless charger worth it?
For $59.99 you are getting a wireless charger that uses USB-C, has three coils, compact in size, gives you the ability to use standing and flat and comes with its own AC adapter.
Wireless chargers we’ve seen on Amazon that are much cheaper than this have some sort of important feature missing. Whether it’s not using USB-C, not having an AC Adapter, not being able to stand or just not having 3 coils.
This puts the TYLT fold ahead in terms of those important features that make up for a reliable wireless charger that works and makes your life easier.
Conclusion
As someone who never really saw the point in wireless charging until I got an iPhone XS Max that supports it, wireless charging has been awesome. I don’t use my lightning charger that much anymore unless I need to use my phone while charging it.
Which will always be the top reason why I go back wired charging at times. Just placing your phone on a surface and it instantly charging with no wires is magic.
